Outreach

Whether it is with the public, in the field, or on campus, my outreach and service commitments focus on addressing social justice in various ways. My talks and presentations in the community aim to educate the public on issues related to the criminal justice system and tend to focus on questioning that which is assumed about the correctional system. My service to the field allows me to support up and coming scholars who may otherwise not be supported. On campus, my goal is to help students better understand what is meant by social justice and how to engage in social justice issues in critical and meaningful ways. As such, my service activities aim to address these issues head on by serving on a variety of committees that impact various segments of the campus community, including the creation of the biennial Social Justice Week. Because of my efforts, I was honored to be awarded the 2014 Faculty Award for Contributions to Diversity and Inclusion and the 2016 Interfaith Leadership and Service Award.
